Innovate for the Future – Oracle Agile PLM + Anselm Consulting Team Provide the Best Solution

In today’s fiercely competitive business environment, companies must continuously innovate and swiftly introduce best-selling products to stay ahead of competitors and maintain a competitive edge. However, if your company is currently facing challenges such as the inability to provide real-time updates on product development progress to customers, track existing product complaints and debugging progress, and manage scattered information leading to operational difficulties, then it’s time to consider reaching out to Anselm for a solution!

Before you decide whether to implement PLM, let us share the history of PLM with you to give you a better understanding of the next-generation PLM:

Managing the entire product lifecycle is not a new concept. This process has been around for a long time, dating back to the initial sale of products. However, PLM has evolved over time, incorporating early product development solutions and introducing computer-aided design (CAD) software. While these early product development solutions were practical, they introduced significant challenges: how to manage, distribute, find, and reuse large CAD files. Computers were not designed to store such large files, and they were less suited for sharing them. Product Data Management (PDM) was introduced to address this issue. Before 1990, PDM (or PLM 1.0) solutions were centered around CAD and focused on managing CAD files or document management. This could quickly expand to manage Bills of Materials (BOM) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO) but primarily focused on product development.

In the 1990s, globalization, outsourcing, and time-to-market pressures forced companies to expand their PDM deployments. Early PLM software (or PLM 2.0) introduced an added layer of security and collaborative capabilities, supporting many functions throughout the product lifecycle, including quality planning, manufacturing, product compliance, product cost estimation, and more, addressing challenges beyond core product development. While PDM remained at the core of any PLM solution, the older tools had limited functionality, were not user-friendly, and required extensive customization.

After 2000, a new generation of PLM software emerged: PLM 3.0. This new evolution focused not only on getting products to market but also added more features throughout the entire lifecycle, including innovation and requirement management, as well as connectivity to downstream manufacturing, supply chain processes, and process improvement. In many cases, these functions were purchased separately and integrated with traditional tools. Although companies could leverage this new functionality, the old methods remained complex and required extensive customization.

Simultaneously, the pressures that initially drove the development of PDM and early PLM solutions were growing. Companies demanded solutions that could meet their needs for product and process innovation, as well as the latest in digital/business transformation and Industry 4.0 initiatives. Modern PLM software, PLM 4.0, is centered around the supply chain and customer-centricity. It is built on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, eliminating the need for companies to hire an entire IT department to manage it. With PLM 4.0, companies can create and monitor digital threads to connect an enterprise’s devices (Internet of Things), products including digital twins, factories, and customers (via social listening and voice) through the cloud in a bidirectional manner, breaking down data silos, and simplifying the complexity of collecting data across the supply network. It speeds up innovation, supports better decision-making, reduces time to market, lowers costs, and enhances product quality.

Anselm recognizes these challenges and, to help you effectively overcome them, we have partnered with Oracle’s leading Agile Product Lifecycle Management (Agile PLM) solution, making it the core solution for managing your product lifecycle.
